This article is part of the thought-provoking series titled ‘Why Most People Don't Heal …and How You Can Be One of the Exceptional Few Who Do.' In this series, we'll explore the barriers that prevent so many from healing and reveal the pathways that can lead you to become one of the exceptional few who successfully navigate these challenges.

As I've mentioned in other articles and videos, I trained for years with Horace Daukei, one of the last surviving traditional doctors (medicine men) among the Kiowa Indian Tribe. Starting in 2002, I also trained for about seventeen years with Chinese master Shifu Li Tai Liang in Xin Yi Quan, Baguazhang, Tai Chi, and Chi Gong.

Horace, possessing paranormal abilities, was one of the most powerful native doctors of the last century. He helped many people recover from cancer, leukemia, and other diseases and health-related issues when conventional medical treatment wasn't able to help them.

I'm allergic to bee and wasp stings. In one instance when I was stung on the wrist, the swelling in my wrist went down within a few minutes as Horace took the swelling into his own wrist. There were times when I would argue with Horace, and, knowing what I was about to say, he would rebut my argument before I could get the words out of my mouth. At times, he would accurately describe events from my past as though he were watching them on a screen. I certainly couldn't hide anything from him.

Shifu possesses tremendous internal power as a result of many years of intensive Chi Gong practice. On a number of occasions, during competitions in China, using his internal power, he would knock his opponents out with a single strike. In one instance, while he was still in China, Shifu took down four escaped convicts who attacked him with knives and meat cleavers. Shifu also possesses extrasensory capabilities.

Mastery and Misguidance: Knowing When to Listen and When to Stand Firm

Both my mentor Horace and Shifu Li Tai Liang had reached extraordinary levels of mastery. Yet, there were times when I could sense they were speaking from their less evolved selves. Sometimes they offered opinions or tried to persuade me into actions that didn't resonate with me or weren't in my best interest. In these moments, I asserted my boundaries firmly, disagreeing and standing my ground.

During my time with Horace and later with Shifu Li Tai Liang, when they advised me on matters related to our training, I listened attentively and followed their guidance. With Horace, listening was crucial for receiving and further developing the healing gifts. With Shifu Li Tai Liang, listening carefully and following instructions was necessary to avoid seriously injuring myself or causing unintended and irreparable harm to others.

Using discernment was key in my interactions with both Horace and Shifu Li Tai Liang. There were moments when they spoke out of their own ignorance or dysfunction, and others when they tapped into their more evolved selves, offered deeply profound insights. Recognizing these differences was essential for knowing when to heed their advice.

Serious concern arises with accounts of Indian yogis, Sufi Masters, and teachers from other spiritual traditions who have abused their authority, sometimes using their power to manipulate or seduce followers. It's vital to remember that no one is infallible. We need to be educated about these issues, set appropriate boundaries and call out abuses whenever they do occur.

An Entirely Different Kind of Learning is Required

Throughout our education, from kindergarten to twelfth grade and extending into higher education, we are taught to listen and follow instructions. This expectation carries over into the professional world, where learning from experienced colleagues and employers is crucial for success.

However, when it comes to working with a gifted healer or someone who has attained mastery in the ancient spiritual traditions, a different kind of learning is required. Many individuals have not yet learned how to open themselves to these unique experiences, to fully absorb the lessons of healing and transformation. This form of learning involves not just intellectual understanding, but also a deep emotional openness, a willingness to experience one's deepest vulnerabilities, and a receptivity to the extraordinarily powerful forces or beings that can facilitate healing within your body and mind, which would not otherwise be possible.

Many individuals carry deep wounds and struggle with serious health issues. Yet, their approach to healing, particularly when working with a gifted healer, often mirrors the behavior of those school kids who didn't listen or follow instructions and acted out. You probably remember such kids from your own school days. It can be rather disheartening to see where they are now and what became of them.

Working with people in our mainstream American culture can be a lot more challenging, and even difficult for me at times. Unlike indigenous cultures, the vast majority of people in our modern-day world do not have a lifelong connection to any ancient spiritual or healing traditions. They have neither witnessed nor experienced firsthand the profound healing and transformational experiences that are integral to some ancient traditional cultures, nor have they spent time with those who possess extraordinary gifts of healing and have attained mastery. And when it comes to their own healing, transformation, and personal development, many have an incredibly limited sense of possibility.

People often showed up in my classes who were in the midst of a devastating breakup, struggling with their attachments to individuals causing them a lot of pain, or were in highly dysfunctional relationships. Lacking the understanding or resources needed to heal their emotional wounds, many of these individuals were overwhelmed by sadness, grief, and other painful emotions. Others were suffering with digestive or respiratory issues, injuries such as those sustained in automobile accidents, and other health-related issues that normally respond very well to the healing process I facilitate.

Based on my experience working with numerous individuals facing similar challenges, I am absolutely certain they could have effectively ‘digested' their painful or traumatic life experiences, along with their sadness, grief, confusion, and other painful emotions. This process would have enabled them to release their unhealthy attachments, heal their deep emotional wounds, and let go. They would come out the other side much lighter, freer, and more resilient. Those suffering from health-related issues, as mentioned in the preceding paragraph, also experience life-changing results as their bodies heal.

And yet, many of those who attended my classes, when encouraged to work with me, would say, ‘I'll think about it.' However, I usually never saw or heard from them again. From my experience working with thousands of people and observing many more, I know that these issues are not going to resolve themselves. Those who fail to recognize and utilize the opportunities for healing presented to them often continue to suffer unnecessarily.

Among those who did respond to my encouragement, there were some dealing with serious medical conditions, deeply entrenched emotional wounds, or, in some cases, a combination of both. These individuals often expressed a desire to ‘try out' a session and then decide how they felt about it. However, for those struggling with long-standing trauma, other deep emotional wounds, or chronic or degenerative health-related issues, this tentative approach is often not the most effective way to embark on the healing journey. True healing usually requires a more committed and sustained effort, considering the depth and complexity of their challenges.

If these individuals were truly self-aware and possessed the resources needed to effect the much-needed healing, their bodies would not be in the disastrous state they are. Nor would they be struggling with the deeply entrenched emotional wounding and dysfunction that has caused so much suffering in their lives. The core issue is that many of these individuals lack self-awareness and understanding of their own bodies, emotions, and pervasive dysfunction. Often, they bolt when the emotions and issues they've spent so much of their lives avoiding start surfacing. Oh well, healing aborted.

Down the road, I've encountered many of these individuals again. Some appeared guarded, as though I were a mirror reflecting the vulnerabilities they were unwilling to face within themselves. In those moments, I often sense an evasiveness and a glazing over of their eyes, telltale signs of those who truly don't want to confront their deeper issues. Sadly, many were still struggling with emotional wounding and health-related issues, conditions that could have healed had they demonstrated commitment and followed through with the healing process.

Conversely, those who stick around long enough to give this process a chance to work heal the trauma, “digesting” decades of backlogged emotions, experience the healing of a wide range of health-related issues, and get their lives on track. With all the additional bandwidth that becomes available, they start developing a whole new range of resources and capabilities.

Commitment and Consistency Along the Healing Journey

People often want to explore different approaches to healing before fully committing, which is understandable. When they express interest in ‘trying out' a session, I often respond by saying, ‘Imagine taking a vitamin or herbal supplement just once. What do you think would happen? I sincerely hope you have enough basic common sense to realize that such a half-ass approach wouldn't yield the desired results.'

Then I ask them, ‘Are you also taking into consideration that the challenges you're facing, the emotional wounding, and health-related issues you're struggling with have been many years, if not decades, in the making?' I make it clear to them that those who fail to listen or follow instructions often do not heal, continuing to suffer needlessly. Based on my experience with individuals who have similar emotional wounds and health-related issues, it's evident that those who merely ‘dabble in healing' do not achieve significant improvement. In contrast, those who demonstrate true commitment and consistency in the healing process are the ones who experience truly life-changing results.

Suffering terribly from the traumatic wounds of my childhood and adolescence, I explored many practices and therapeutic modalities. The primary difference in my approach was that I committed to thoroughly testing these practices and interventions over an extended period to gauge their effectiveness. Often, this evaluation process took months. After determining their efficacy, I continued to work with the practices and interventions that proved to be most effective.

Complicating the healing process is the fact that many people go through life numbing or distracting themselves from their authentic emotional responses and avoiding the issues that need to be addressed. They have often spent their entire lives doing this, up to the point that I start working with them. This continual numbing and distracting leads to profound disconnects in the body, mind, and emotions. Typically, it takes at least five or more sessions to get people firmly grounded in their bodies. This grounding enables them to access and digest their life experiences and emotional responses, and to tap into the necessary resources for effectively addressing their concerns head-on.

To further compound matters, most people's bodies hold a significant backlog of stagnation, comprised of physical toxins and undigested emotions. This stagnation, coupled with stress, often results in considerable emotional body armoring. Consequently, many people's bodies are not initially responsive to the healing process. It takes a considerable amount of work to clear this stagnation, dissolve the layers of emotional body armor, and bring the body to a malleable state where true healing can occur.

The initial sessions are predominantly focused on clearing stagnation and dissolving emotional body armor. By the third or fourth session, people’s bodies typically start to become more responsive. Around the fifth, sixth, and subsequent sessions, their bodies become significantly more malleable and begin to interact with the powerful presence working through me. It is during these stages that profound transformation occurs.

Sometimes, I find it disheartening to encounter the flakiness and lack of seriousness in many people's approach to healing. To achieve the best results, it’s crucial to approach this work with the same degree of seriousness and commitment as one would when seeking intervention from a mental health or western Allopathic medical professional.

What many fail to realize is that I began my training with my mentor Horace back in 1983. Since completing my apprenticeship, I have further advanced through dozens of vision quests. I have been in practice since 1988. The recommendations I make to each individual are grounded in decades of study, observation, and extensive experience working with thousands of people, and my own personal experiences. Those who listen and commit to the process experience deep emotional and physical healing, leading to life-changing transformations.

The Importance of Guidance and Intervention Along the Healing Path

There's an old proverb that says, ‘Make yourself into a sheep and you'll find a wolf behind the next tree.' We are all human, prone to ignorance, confusion, and mistakes, which is why it's so important for us to use discernment. I feel it's crucial for all of us to maintain a healthy awareness, or even vigilance, and not to blindly follow anyone in a position of authority. We should question any inappropriate actions and maintain healthy boundaries.

I have witnessed and called out some very powerful individuals on their dysfunction and abuses of power. Feeling a tremendous sense of responsibility, I have, on many occasions, warned those who I felt were potentially vulnerable to manipulation.

As I work with people individually, helping them digest their life experiences, including past trauma and the backlog of stagnant emotion, I see a transformation. They begin dissolving the layers of emotional body armor, becoming more present in their bodies. This shift leads to a heightened sensory capacity and a greater awareness of themselves, other people, and their immediate environment. There's a noticeable increase in their depth of understanding; their ability to comprehend expands. They start to feel more deeply, and their cognitive range broadens.

I watch these individuals evolve as they continue along their healing journey. For many, the process involves letting go of unhealthy attachments, whether with friends, family, or those in political or religious contexts. They develop the capacity to see through the dysfunction that once clouded their perceptions, thus freeing themselves in ways that enable a greater sense of self-sufficiency.

I also believe it’s important to acknowledge that there are individuals with a vast wealth of experience and valuable knowledge, especially those trained in ancient spiritual traditions. Some possess extraordinary power, gifts of healing and other ‘transmissions' that have been passed down over centuries. Recognizing the value these individuals offer is essential. Understanding when to listen to and follow their instructions is equally important, as they possess the keys to profound knowledge, healing, and transformative power. We can, in many ways, greatly benefit from what they have to offer.

My mentor Horace and Shifu Li Tai Liang each hold a position in their respective lineages. They both have access to extraordinary power, and there's a long line of other individuals behind them who have attained mastery over the course of their lives. Horace and Shifu Li Tai Liang have both said to me at some point, ‘You're not going to come by this power solely on your own.' In other words, in the ancient spiritual traditions, it is common knowledge that there are individuals who act as intermediaries, playing an important role in assisting others along the path of healing and evolution. These individuals act as conduits to allow extraordinarily powerful forces to facilitate healing and transformation that wouldn't otherwise be possible. Having spent many years training with Horace and Shifu and going on numerous vision quests, I too am an intermediary.

It's really hard for most people in our modern-day world to comprehend all that is involved in the healing processes that have been a significant part of indigenous cultures for thousands of years. Indigenous healers commit themselves to facilitate the healing of their patients. An invocation is made, calling upon other forces to assist the patient. Indigenous people understood this, whereas most people in our modern-day in most instances do not.

Native Americans, for instance, were taught by their elders to show respect, and even reverence, for their traditional doctors. They would make an offering whenever they approached their doctors seeking intervention. When the doctor agreed to work with someone, he or she would specify a certain number of sessions and other requirements that needed to be fulfilled to determine the success of the intervention. The agreement made at that time between doctor and patient was viewed as a commitment to be fulfilled.

When you decide to work with me or other gifted healers or train with someone who has attained mastery in other ancient spiritual traditions, it is critically important for you to listen carefully to the guidance and instructions being offered, to work with the practices being taught, and to follow through with interventions such as individual healing sessions.

Working with an individual requires a tremendous investment on my part, as I'm deeply committed to facilitating the much-needed healing. When I commit myself to facilitate someone's healing journey, it's essential that they also commit themselves fully. In our modern-day world, commitment is often equated to a financial investment. To align with this understanding, I've started charging more for ‘one-off' sessions, while offering a discounted rate for those who pay upfront for a series of sessions. This approach ensures that I'm not wasting my time and effort, and it also encourages the person I'm working with to be equally invested in achieving results.

My intention in working with each individual is to facilitate the healing of the deep emotional wounds and physical body while supporting them in becoming the absolute best version of themselves. Any guidance I offer, practices that I teach, and the work we do on the table—where I act as a conduit to allow extraordinarily powerful forces to work through me on their behalf—are adapted to address their specific needs and temperament. When the recipient listens to my guidance and follows through with the sessions, their entire body and mind undergo such a profound transformation; the emotional wounds and their physical bodies heal, and they develop the resources needed to realize their true potential and fulfill their life's purpose.

The Commitment to Teach and Heal

Teachers who dedicate themselves to educating our children make an enormous contribution to society, yet they are often not given enough credit for the challenges they face. They tolerate an enormous amount of stress and difficulties, ranging from overcrowded classrooms to limited resources. In some parts of the country, they are grossly underpaid, and, sadly, many are even being vilified in the midst of right-wing culture wars. Despite these hardships, teachers who are truly invested in their students and genuinely want to see them learn have at times expressed concerns about some students being unteachable.

My mentor Horace once said to me that I had chosen a very difficult path. And yet, I'm committed to this work because, at a deep level, I truly do care about the well-being of others and strive to do whatever I can to facilitate their healing and continued growth. My goal is to see people not only thrive, but also realize their true potential. However, as much as I want this for everyone and ultimately desire a better world, I have come to realize that a substantial portion of the population is not just unteachable but also unhealable. That's why I often say, ‘Reach those you can, entertain the rest.' With that being said, I am especially grateful to those who do listen and are willing to follow through and do what it takes to heal, evolve, and contribute to making this world a better place.
